Hi guys! Big welcome to any new faces – this is my little space on the interweb (although not updated anywhere near as frequently as I’d like, its a fun space where I get to share some of the new Quilty things that I’ve been working on).
I’m excited to be involved in Lori Holt and The Fat Quarter Shop‘s Spelling Bee Saturday, and thrilled to be able to talk to you about the blocks that I’ve sewn up.

Most of you may not know that I am a part time fabric/surface pattern designer/artist and quilter, and that for four days of our hectic week are spent inside a Grade 1 and 2 classroom. I love both my jobs, and I am always so torn as to which to spend more time on that I end up doing this see saw of up and down – teacher/designer/teacher/designer. When I’m given an opportunity to make something creative for my or with my students it truly lights up my day!
When I first saw Lori’s book I fell in love with the concept – how perfect to have a book of letters, numbers and symbols to turn into an endless stream of alphabet based projects. I was thinking text quilts, custom name pillows and bunting! Oh, the bunting and banners you could make!

My students and I have been spending a lot of time in the beginning of this year practicing reading and writing our numbers and talking about just how important the number zero is. These number 0 and 1 blocks will join the others from the book and become a rainbow number banner for my classroom, as a bright, happy reminder of my two much loved jobs, and the order in which our numbers are read and written! 🙂
I pulled fabrics from my scrap basket, these two are made in two prints from my first fabric collection Daisy Days. I’ve cut into the border to make a fun little flag shape, which I think will look super cute with my bright classroom decor. I can’t wait to get these finished and bound in my favourite Riley Blake Designs Navy 1/8″ stripe

I hope you enjoy these little blocks as I did making them. Make sure to follow along at #fqsquiltalong and #spellingbeesaturdays !
