sponge roll {a Moda Bake Shop tutorial}

Have been well and truly blessed this week with special projects and collaborative ventures! This little secret has been mine for several months and I’m so excited to share it with you all!

Earlier this year the Moda Bake Shop asked their designers to submit a block and row design for a collaborative quilt design and sew-along, with the rows forming layers in a quilty Trifle Dish! I submitted my block and row design and was thrilled when it was picked {I still have to pinch myself when I realise I have published tutorials on the MBS}!.

I’m so very pleased to present ‘sponge roll’ - a simple block, using charm squares and candy packs for scrappy look {or layer cake and charm squares for non-scrappy}, with a big impact. This row forms layer 7 in the Moda Bake Shop Trifle Dish Quilt Sew-Along.

Growing up trifle was a holiday dish – one we ate at Christmas, with a scoop {or two} of ice cream and as kids always fought over leftovers the next day! Trifle made by any member of my family always had a layer of sponge roll – the jams always adding to the sweetness of the dish and the sponge that super light element that I will always remember. I loved seeing those little rolls peeking out amongst the cream and jelly and fruit {I see a recipe perhaps posted in the future… ;-) }.

I love that this quilt allows for me to work with so many amazing designers, and cannot wait to see finished reader quilts. I’m looking forward to piecing each of the rows myself using favourite Moda collections and precuts!
